Important Update from 4everMIND Consulting

4everMIND Consulting will regrettably remain closed temporarily.

We have suffered extensive electrical damage as a consequence of the recent floods. We are awaiting further appraisal and an electrical safety certification.

Concurrently, as of the 24th December 2023, we again find ourselves the target of the QHealth-driven campaign seemingly to rid any practitioner willing to treat neurodiversity, from practising in Cairns. Despite our two recent disasters, there has been no reprieve from the relentless and vexatious behaviour.

The knee-jerk notifications whenever any current or former patient has contact with QHealth, irrespective of the reason, have led to my difficult decision to close all local practices until this vexatious climate can be formally addressed. Professionally, it is no longer safe to attempt to provide ANY continuing care in Cairns, without robust, legally-tested protections that will ensure the safety of my staff and patients alike. These processes will take time.

Regrettably, in the absence of any forthcoming conciliation AND assurance that these faceless public health service practitioners will abide by our governing professional codes of conduct, I will be left with no alternative but to make the decision to relocate my practice from Cairns.

The complete lack of any communication, disrespect for my knowledge & expertise and refusal to afford me even the most basic level of professional courtesy, means, as a private practitioner, I am forever operating blindly. Despite repeated requests, I do not receive any notification of my patients’ presentations, admissions, collegial dialogue, or input into arbitrary changes to treatment. To attempt to continue to work within this withholding aka ghosting environment, is at the risk of patient safety. After 12 long years of unrelenting and unsubstantiated notifications, I am no longer willing to place myself in a position where I can be further degraded, and occupationally attacked. No one deserves to go to work EVERY DAY for 12 years, under such a cloud of misinformation and abject hostility.

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide any continuity of care during this unspecified period. Rest assured, I am working diligently with my colleagues Australia-wide to find a reasonable solution to the escalating constrictions and contagion of fear, stigmatising the treatment of neurodiversity. All new referrals for 291-assessments will be honoured, and your appointments rebooked in the very near future.

We ask all patients, in the interim, to please see your GP for all matters, including ongoing prescriptions. There are numerous other psychiatrists in Cairns, and online that you may seek a referral to see, via your GP. Seeking alternate care is your right and, understandably, we will not be offended.

We will endeavour to provide your GP with updated prescribing letters as soon as possible, if your treatment was already stabilised, these should have already been sent via medical objects.

For all emergency care please attend your local hospital or call 000.

We will keep everyone updated via our website.

Stay safe and we look forward to a timely resolution.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and patience.

Dr Lindsay Martin,
Consultant Psychiatrist,

MEDICAL FITNESS TO DRIVE [December 2023]

Medical Condition Reporting requirements – Autism Spectrum Disorder
  •  If you intend on driving in Queensland, you must notify TMR about any medical condition that is likely to adversely affect your ability to drive safely.
  • You must notify TMR if you develop a permanent medical condition, OR if you have a permanent aggravation of that medical condition that is likely to affect your ability to drive safely.
  • This includes anyone who applies for or already holds a Queensland driver’s licence.

Drivers with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis are only required to inform Transport and Main Roads of their diagnosis if it is likely to affect safe driving.

Why are they targeting Autism:

Adult drivers with ASD report more collisions and more traffic violations than their NT [neurotypical] peers (Daly et al., 2014). The number of traffic violations was statistically significant, with 30% of individuals with ASD compared to 12% of their NT peers. Insurance data also suggests that ASD/ADHD drivers had 3.3 times more accident-related claims than controls.

Individuals with ASD or ASD/ADHD demonstrated the following:

  • Decreased right-eye visual acuity
  • Selective attention problems
  • Decreased visual scanning
  • Challenges with visual-motor coordination
  • Reduced reactions to human hazards versus mechanical hazards in the driving environment
  • Tendency to shift eye gaze away from increasing roadway stimuli and to the right
  • Difficulty with handling unexpected changes.
  • Sustaining attention for long drives
  • Difficulty merging into traffic
  • Increased anxiety if other drivers deviate from road rules, becoming preoccupied with those events instead of managing their own vehicles.

Much of the current research indicates the driving errors occur because of visual problems. It is therefore fundamental to undertake and complete: TMR FORM F3712 Part 3

To notify TMR about your medical condition: you must complete the medical condition notification (form F4355): TMR FORM QF4355 and email it or mail it to the address on the form.
Once you have satisfied the eyesight assessment and if needed, notified TMR; you can request your GP to complete the medical fitness to drive form: TMR FORM F3712.
TMR recommends that you also complete the health questionnaire TMR FORM F3195 before attending your GP appointment as this information will assist your GP when undertaking the medical assessment.

If you do not notify TMR about your medical condition, you may receive a maximum court-imposed fine of more than $9,200 and your driver’s licence may be cancelled.

Your health professional is legally permitted to notify TMR about your medical condition.
